Data Replication

Replicator for Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) is a unique tool allowing businesses to benefit from a safe and secure distributed database environment. The program allows companies to transfer data (for example, customer or order entries) between two Navision databases, whether the databases are placed locally or running on servers.

Replicator allows larger organisations running Microsoft Dynamics NAV to:

  • Setup and maintain distributed Microsoft Dynamics NAV databases.
  • Set-up local Navision servers at each branch, resulting in better performance and up-time.
  • Reduce costs by reducing the time spent on-line dialling into a remote server.
  • Empower field staff and improve their productivity by providing them with a local Navision database on their laptop able to replicate to/ from the central database at regular intervals (e.g. once a day).

Replicator is safe, secure and flexible, allowing companies to specify which data they want replicating. Organisations can transfer data from HQ to other departments – for example, between HQ and Field Sales (using laptops) or between the HQ main server and a backup server.

Flexibility

You can make your replications even more flexible by extending the Specification with options such as:

  • Field List: Replicate only specific fields.
  • Filters: Replicate data corresponding to filters defined.
  • Table-Linking: Replicate between tables that have different primary keys.
  • Sub-Specifications: Add sub-specifications handling for example order lines to the specification.

Features:

  • Accessible from Navision: Your Microsoft Dynamics NAV main menu will be extended with a Setup Application in which the Specifications of the fields and tables to be transferred are specified.
  • Real Time Back Up: Using the Backup Server facility you can backup your Navision database in virtually real time.
  • Built-in Scheduler: Replicator includes a built-in scheduler where you can set up automatic transfers. You can even have Microsoft Dynamics NAV Codeunits run automatically. The Scheduler can be run as a Windows 2000/XP Service.
  • Replicator Server: The Replicator Server facility reduces the total transfer time significantly when using mobile phones or internet. Data is packed and compressed before transfer. The Replicator Server can be run as a Windows 2000/XP Service.
  • Transfer Design Objects: With Replicator you can also transfer design objects (codeunits, tables, forms etc.) between Microsoft Dynamics NAV databases.
  • Secure Replication: To ensure the best possible security in your replications the C-Toolkit or C/Front is used to access the databases and the Navision feature Commit/Rollback is used to ensure that either all data is replicated or none at all. In addition, Replicator contains the Activity Register in which you can see the replication status.
